Anglo-Irish treaty
On 6 December 1921, the British government under Prime Minister David Lloyd George concludes a cease-fire agreement, the „Anglo-Irish Treaty“, with the moderate elements of the Irish independence movement under the leadership of Arthur Griffith and Michael Collins.

Except for the majority Protestant province of Ulster, Ireland becomes a free state in the British Empire of the time. Exactly a year later, on 6 December 1922, the constitution of the „Irish Free State“ will go into effect. In the following decades, the province of Ulster, later Northern Ireland, will become a constant hot spot.
