Battle of Amiens
On 8 August 1918, the Battle of Amiens begins with a major offensive by the allies. Through the massive employment of new „tanks“ (armoured vehicles), the English achieve deep incursions into German positions, forcing the retreat of the German army at many points. On 14 August the Supreme Military Command (OHL) admits to Kaiser Wilhelm II and the Austrian Emperor Karl I that continuing the war would be „futile“.
