Brüning’s cabinet resigns

On 7 October 1931 all members of the cabinet under Reich Chancellor Heinrich Brüning (Centre) resign from office. This step enables Reich President Paul von Hindenburg, as he has wanted to for a long time, to appoint a politically more right-leaning government. Brüning stays on as Reich Chancellor. From now on, the German parliament, the Reichstag, has been rendered insignificant for all practical purposes.
