After two and a half years of construction the Hindenburg Dam, a railroad dam covering a stretch of seven and a half miles, is dedicated on 1 June 1927. It connects the North Frisian island of Sylt with the mainland. Its construction consisted of 37.7 million ft. of soil and 300,000 tons of stone.
