Eisenhower’s Inauguration
On 20 January 1953 republican Dwight D. Eisenhower is sworn into office as the 34th President of the United States and successor to Harry S. Truman. The former supreme commander of the Western allies during the Second World War was able to prevail over democrat Adlai Ewing Stevenson in the elections of 4 November 1952. Eisenhower’s paramount goal is to bring an end to the US-led war in Korea.
