Expatriation of political opponents

Erich Weinert, 1930

More and more frequently the Reich government is expatriating political opponents who were able to escape National Socialist persecution through emigration. That is the case not only for Communists such as the publicist and cabaretist Erich Weinert but also for some of Hitler’s former „comrades in arms“ who turned away from the „Führer“. One of those is Otto Strasser, the brother of Gregor Strasser who was murdered during the „Röhm Putsch“ in June. Weinert und Strasser, who had emigrated to Switzerland and Austria respectively, are stripped of their German citizenship on 3 November 1934.
