Founding of the „Iron Front“

As a reaction to increasing violence by the Nazis, the „Iron Front“ is founded on 16 December 1931 by the SPD, the General German Labour Federation (ADGB), the Workers’ Sports Associations and the social-democratic combat league „Reich Banner Black-Red-Gold.“ Its goal is to defend the Weimar Republic from the National Socialists, the Communists and the so-called conservative „camarilla of nobles.“ Due to its feeble organisational structure, the „Iron Front“ will in the days to come be unable to offer any effective resistance to the enemies of democracy.
