On 14 November 1940 the German Luftwaffe undertakes a difficult night attack on the British city of Coventry. Among its objectives is the Rolls Royce Armament Works. The city centre, with its cathedral from the 14th century, is almost totally destroyed. 572 people are killed. Adolf Hitler will continue this air war against English cities until the spring of 1941.
