Representatives of the West European nations, the USA and Canada assemble at the „Paris Conferences“ on 19 October 1954 to implement the resolutions made at the London Nine-Powers Conference. They agree to a change in the Treaty on Germany of 26 May 1952 whose link to the failed treaty on the „European Defence Community“ (EVG) is thereby cancelled. Instead, the Federal Republic is to be admitted into NATO. In addition, conference participants agree on founding the „Western European Union“ (WEU). This will result from the „Brussels Pact“ concluded in 1948 between France, Great Britain and the Benelux nations. Four days later the „Paris Treaties“ are signed. Along with the Treaty on Germany, they will go into effect on 5 May 1955.
