Since the end of the Second World War the issue of the future of Palestine has presented itself anew. Before the war British authorities tolerated the immigration of more and more Jews. The conflict over the country between Arabs and Jews seems insoluble. The „Special International Committee for Palestine“, an agency of the United Nations intent on finding a peaceful settlement of the dispute, finally suggests on 29 November 1947 a „Two-Nation Solution“: Palestine is to be partitioned into a Jewish and an Arab state. In the following year, 1948, the state of Israel is founded. However, this does not bring an end to the conflicts; they are just getting started.
