Since the Bolsheviks (Communists) seized power during the „October Revolution“ of 1917, a bloody civil war between the „Reds“ and „Whites“ (inter alia liberals and democrats supported by foreign intervention troops) has been raging in Russia. Several million people lose their lives. Under the leadership of Leon D. Trotsky, the „Red Army“ is able to decisively defeat the troops of the „Whites“ on 21 October 1919 in the vicinity of St. Petersburg.
