Trotsky's expulsion from the CP of the USSR

During a plenary session of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) Leon D. Trotsky is expelled from the politburo. He is considered the main rival to Josef Stalin, who has been able to steadily augment his power in the nation and in the party since the death of Lenin. In 1940 Stalin will have Trotsky murdered in Mexico, where the latter had fled into exile.
