Truman Doctrine announced

On 12 March 1947 in a speech in Fulton, Missouri, US President Harry S. Truman announces that the United States intends to help in future all countries which are threatened by Communism (Truman Doctrine). It is the beginning of the American policy of containment against the Soviet Union. Greece and Turkey are to be the first countries to receive this economic aid.
