Unemployment Insurance Law

On 7 July 1927, the Berlin Reichstag enacts the Unemployment Insurance and Labour Exchange Law. It is the most important social and political reform of the Weimar Republic. In future employees must insure themselves against unemployment and receive a legal claim to unemployment compensation. This is determined according to the amount of the most recent net wage. Employer and employee each bear half the costs of the insurance.
